San Juan del Obispo Tour

We’ll start by picking you up in central Antigua or at a previously agreed meeting point. If you’re up for it, you might even get the chance to hop on a colorful local chicken bus—a true Guatemalan experience!

We’ll make our way to the charming village of San Juan del Obispo, just a 20-minute ride from Antigua. As we head out of the city, you’ll notice the scenery begin to shift—quiet streets, fresh mountain air, and a peaceful local vibe.

• Our first stop is the historic Convent of Bishop Marroquín. Stepping inside this 300-year-old building is like walking into the pages of history. We’ll explore its unique architecture, colonial-era artwork, religious sculptures, and paintings from the golden years of Spanish influence in Guatemala.
• We’ll also visit the beautiful chapel within the convent. Afterward, and depending on availability, you’ll enjoy a tasting of some of the traditional sweets San Juan is known for.
• From there, we’ll take a short walk to the central plaza, where you’ll hear more about the village’s past and enjoy breathtaking views of the surrounding valley.

• We’ll continue walking through the village to visit one of the famous chocolate workshops. These local chocolaterías are known all over Guatemala for their rich flavor and artisanal production. You’ll learn about their process and enjoy a comforting cup of hot chocolate.
• Next, we’ll taste some truly unique products made with níspero (loquat), a fruit that’s deeply tied to this village. From wines and jams to other creative treats, you’ll get to sample a variety of flavors—and there will be time to chat with local producers and purchase anything that catches your eye.

Once we’ve filled our hearts (and bellies!), we’ll begin the short journey back to Antigua. Relax and reflect on all the local traditions, tastes, and stories you’ve experienced during this special visit to San Juan del Obispo.
