We’ll start by picking you up in central Antigua or at a previously agreed meeting point.Then we’ll set out northwest toward Chimaltenango, before joining the Inter-American Highway on our way to Iximche.
Depending on traffic, the drive will take about 50 to 65 minutes. Sit back, relax, and watch the landscapes change from Antigua’s colonial streets to rolling hills and highland scenery along the way.
Once we arrive at the Iximche Archaeological Park, we’ll head through the main entrance and begin our guided walking tour.
You’ll discover the fascinating pre-Columbian history of this ancient Kaqchikel city, as well as its important role during the Spanish conquest. We’ll explore the three main plazas, admire the remnants of pre-colonial architecture, and walk across original ball courts where the Mayans played their sacred game.
We’ll also visit sacred areas still used for rituals today, connecting past traditions with modern cultural practices. Throughout the tour, you’ll learn about how Iximche became the first Spanish capital established in Guatemala, adding another layer to its historical significance.
